Kunal Ghosh has been a professor at and head of the department of aerospace engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. After retirement, he worked as a professor at the Institute of Aeronautical Engineering, Hyderabad. Later, he became an adjunct professor at the department of mechanical engineering, Nirma University, Ahmedabad. He continued to work as a part-time visiting professor at the same institution until August 2021.
A graduate of IIT Kharagpur, he obtained his PhD in 1973 in aeronautics and astronautics from the University of Southampton. He has authored numerous research papers and holds several patents. He also has an abiding interest in the humanities and has contributed many articles to current affairs journals. He has authored a book on low-speed aerodynamics and contributed a chapter to Understanding Ambedkar.
He has been a member of the Royal Aeronautical Society, UK, and British Wind Energy Association. He is a lifetime member of the Aeronautical Society of India, Indian Society of Technical Education, Institution of Engineers (India), and Indian Academy of Social Sciences.
