Dr Sisir Kumar Bose founded the Netaji Research Bureau at Calcutta’s Netaji Bhawan—the house from where he assisted his Uncle Subhas’s 1941 escape—and built it over four decades into the world’s leading centre of research and documentation on Netaji. In his professional life, he was one of India’s pioneering and finest paediatricians. He was also a Member of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, elected from Calcutta, from 1982 to 1987. His wife Krishna Bose, a professor and writer, is a former three-term Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Greater Calcutta’s Jadavpur constituency.
